The Four Loves
 

After maybe 4 years, re-reading his 140-page book. I can only read a few pages at a time, -- penetrating. What's everyones' take on it. Rare, rare book.

Well, I got it last year, but only got to read it fully 4-8 weeks ago.

I found most of it quite good, really-- EXEPT THAT OBSCENE CHAPTER ABOUT "FRIENDSHIP", that is! :mad:

Man, when I read that garbage, it really lowered my respect for C. S. Lewis by just about 70 %.

I mean, will you listen to his dehuminazing hate-tirades/contempt for everything female?!? :rolleyes:

Or, his outright rasism toward black people ("...due to my genes I have rather worse teeth then some black, who's never brushed his teeth...") :rolleyes:

Really, this book IS one of the BEST I ever read: the dark sides of love (Love who becomes more important the God, ends up becoming a demon-- one of the "Dark Gods of the Blood") were well explored.

But unless they edit Lewis' anti-christian enmity to womanhood and rassistic contempt/antagonism towards "non-whites" OUT of this book - alongside the entire "Friendship" chapter: it's highly out of date, and some colledge nerd's glorification of his hobby -, I can't advise anybody who USED to be an fan of Lewis to read it. For you'll really think LESS of him after this lecture.

Furthermore, since this "Friendship" chapter is obviously satanic garbage, one can't help to wonder at times, if the rest of this book, and his other books ("Mere Christianity", etc) are wrong too... but they certainly seem VALID to me.

Just because he's wrong about 2 things doesn't mean the rest is at fault, too.

And anyway, I worship GOD, not C. S. Lewis. :D

i have never known a christian author, least of all Lewis to write obscene works. The four loves is a very complex work, not to be taken lightly or to be considered obscene or obsolete. Naturally, we must worship the Lord and not a man, but to say that one of the greatest christian and intellectual minds of the past century produced satanic, rascist, or obscene writing is a bit far fetched.
